Trent treks north

10 Apr 2024

Trent has now joined the race north, as we'd anticipated. A journey of around 1,450km (900 miles) has taken him from Guinea, through south-west Mali and across much of Mauritania.

He is currently approaching the border of Western Sahara and is on a route that should see him crossing into Morocco soon.

Now we’re Torc-ing!

10 Apr 2024

It had been 12 days since we last heard from Cuach Torc, when he was still in western Ghana.

That all changed yesterday, when his transmitter revealed that he is now some 2,364km (1,469 miles) to the north in Algeria, just 22km (13 miles) from the Moroccan border. This puts Cuach Torc firmly in the lead, and the first of our tagged Cuckoos to cross the Sahara.

Bluey does a U-ey

08 Apr 2024

After making landfall in Mali last week, it seems Bluey had a change of heart and u-turned, flying a surprising 323km (200 miles) south, back into southern Guinea, close to the border with Sierra Leone.

Fingers crossed he reorientates himself soon, and sets off back on a northerly route toward the Sahara.

Cuach Cores pushes west

08 Apr 2024

Cuach Cores has had a remarkable week, covering some 1,815km (1,127 miles) in just five days!

Since our last report on 4 April he has flown 707km (439 miles) west into Cameroon, where he spent some time just south of the Mbam et Djerem National Park.

After a short time here, he continued north-west moving rapidly across southern Nigeria, where after a 1,113km (691 miles) journey he was recorded close to the Benin border, just 170km (105 miles) north of Nigeria's capital, Lagos.

Trent moves north

08 Apr 2024

After lingering in south-eastern Guinea for a few weeks, Trent finally made a signficant move north in recent days and flew 224km (139 miles) to an area close to the Mali border.

He's currently near the River Niger, 47km (29 miles) south-east of the city of Siguiri. Hopefully, he'll be gearing up to cross the Sahara any day now...

Cuach Cores heads west

03 Apr 2024

Cuach Cores has now crossed the Congo River and is heading north west having flown 775 km (482 miles) from his last location in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

He is now close to the border of the Central African Republic just 48 km (30 miles) east of the Ubangi River. His journey should see him continuing west through Cameroon and towards Nigeria.

Bluey heads north to Mali

03 Apr 2024

Bluey has set off north from southern Guinea and crossed the border into Mali after a 597km (371 miles) journey.

He is now in the south west of the country, near the village of Tonbokoli, to the west of Bafing National Park.

Joe crosses into Ivory Coast

25 Mar 2024

Joe has flown 111km (69 miles) west from Ghana into Ivory Coast.

He is now 8km (5 miles) north-west of the town of Ettrokro in east-central Ivory Coast.

Cuach Cores on the move

25 Mar 2024

Cuach Cores has flown 210km (130 miles) north within the Congo Basin of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

He is now in the Maringa-Lopori-Wamba Forest Landscape, one of the least developed and remotest parts of the Congo Basin. Cores is surely on his way to west Africa now so we should see him moving on from here fairly soon.

Cuach Torc moves west

18 Mar 2024
